26th July 2008

Once again we will be generating a carnival atmosphere with activities, stalls and entertainment  for the whole family

.

We will have the road closed from the Clock Tower to the Old Town and a giant  stage erected  for the full entertainment programme that will be on offer throughout the day.

A funfair will be sited  on the car park next to the harbour  opposite the Old Town with other rides spread out along the closed road.

The street will be lined with stalls and attractions for everyone, offering the opportunity for Local Businesses, Charities and Agencies such as Thanet District Council and other sponsors  to promote and  generate awareness of their products and services.

The Hotel and Guest House industry in Thanet is represented on the Pride Committee and we are committed to promoting overnight facilities to those who attend the event from outside of Margate and last year several businesses offered reduced rates for those attending the event.

The event will start at 11am with activities running throughout the day until about 7.30pm with the funfair  continuing later -  a parade is planned to start from the Winter Gardens  and  will conclude at the main stage ready for the official opening at  11.30am.

Last  year’s  entertainment programme headed by “ The Sheila’s  was a great success and the committee have some great plans this year involving entertainers from the local area and  National TV –  further details of our great line up will be announced shortly!.

There will not be a charge for attending the event although collections will be made throughout the day for people to make voluntary donations with the proceeds going towards this Event and Local Charities.

Apart from having a fun day the main focus  will be to promote diversity, tolerance and understanding throughout the community of East Kent.

The nature of the event will attract gay, lesbian, bisexual, transvestites and cross dressers from the wider community but as last year demonstrated there will also be a large number of family groups covering all ages and bringing all these groups together along with the immigrant population is an important objective of the event!

The event contributes  to the regeneration of the area by bringing visitors to the town and will be an opportunity for the relevant agencies to be represented and have the chance to promote  and improve awareness of the many projects that are now taking place to enhance and rejuvenate Margate.

A Big “ Thank You” must go to all the sponsors for their generosity in supporting  this second annual event and our many helpers who assist in organising Thanet PRIDE.
